A promising figure on the French opera scene, Julien Henric is now a highly sought-after tenor.
He has performed, notably, at the Aix-en-Provence International Opera Festival, as well as at the Cologne and Hamburg Philharmonies, the Donizetti Festival in Bergamo, , the Opéra National du Rhin, the Olympia Theatre in Athens, the Opéra de Saint-Étienne, the National Music Auditorium in Madrid, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Opéra de Tours, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, and the Ravenna Festival…
Over the years, he has collaborated with directors such as Calixto Bieito, Jacopo Spirei, Mariame Clément, Ulrich Rasche, Daniel Kramer and Krzysztof Warlikowski. He has also worked with conductors such as John Nelson, Bertrand de Billy, Marc Minkowski, Stefano Montanari, Roberto González-Monjas, Thomas Adès, Riccardo Minasi, Raphaël Pichon and Sir Mark Elder.
He has recently distinguished himself in the roles of Laërte in Hamlet (Thomas) at the Salzburg Festival and at the Teatro Regio Torino, Tébaldo in L’Ancêtre (Saint-Saëns) at the Auditorium Rainier III with the Palazzetto Bru Zane, Don José in Carmen (Bizet) at the Shanghai Opera House, Le Chevalier de la Force in Les dialogues des Carmélites (Poulenc) at the Opéra de Rouen Normandie, the Opéra National de Bordeaux and the Opéra Royal de Versailles…
Following his debut at the BBC Proms in Berlioz’s Requiem, conducted by Sir Antonio Pappano at the Royal Albert Hall, Julien Henric’s 2026–2027 season promises numerous debuts, including the role of Octavio in Giuditta (Lehár) at the Opéra de Lausanne.
He is also returning to the Opéra National de Paris in Thomas’s Hamlet (Laërte) and Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette (Tybalt), to the Opéra National de Bordeaux for his first French Don José in Carmen, and to MÜPA Budapest in Reynaldo Hahn’s La Carmélite.
Originally from Lyon, Julien Henric studied theatre and opera singing in his hometown. In 2018, he was named “révelation lyrique” by ADAMI and won three prizes at Young Artists Raymond Duffaut Competition. Continuing in this vein, he won 2nd prize and the melody prize at the Concours International des Symphonies d’Automne de Mâcon the following year. He graduated from the CNSMDL in 2020 and immediately joined the Jeune Ensemble du Grand Théâtre de Genève for the 20-21 and 21-22 seasons. He also won the 1st Prize for French Melody and the 3rd Prize for Opera at the Marmande International Competition in 2022.In 2025, he was nominated in the “Révélation Lyrique” category at the 32nd Victoires de la Musique Classique awards ceremony. In 2026, he was awarded the “Révélation Lyrique” prize by the French Critics’ Union.
